China - Day 11, Saturday

Randy is home for the weekend, so we decided to run a few errands. Iris, from his office, called and offered to drive us to the stores.

We went to Carrefour again! Since we had a car we decided to buy some large items. This time we got a water cooler, ladder, toaster, 2 pillows and a rice cooker.

Now the rice cooker is a must in China. I had bought the rice and tried cooking it in a regular pot, but it turned out horrible. So I broke down and bought a cooker. They promised it would be easy for me to use. Will let you know.

This is the Rice Cooker. You add the rice and water to just cover
the rice, push down the button on the front and it will
pop up when it is done! Simple - we'll see!

Some items are really inexpensive here. The ladder cost 89RMB or roughly $14. The rice cooker was 128RMB or $20.

The water cooler has both hot and cold and cost 598RMB or about $96. They had other ones that were less expensive, but I thought this one was really pretty and fit into the decor of the apartment!

The water cooler is red with white flowers on the front.
The water bottle goes on top.

There are 2 doors on the water cooler. The top door you
pour your water, the bottom is a small storage.

We are able to order water delivery through the apartment office. We must put a deposit down on account then we can call and they will deliver the water within the hour!

We were also looking to buy new mattresses. The Chinese love to sleep on hard (like bricks) mattresses. Our mattress is not horrible, but Daniel's is. So we went looking for a store called Slumbermaax. Well apparently they do not have a store, it is all online. So we will look at another place. We need to find a mattress soon for him. Just finding the stores is not that easy.

We ended with dinner at a New York Style Pizza place for dinner. It really was pretty good. The pizzas are huge. The small is 16" which is a normal size medium/large at home. They go up to a 22" as the large. We made the mistake of ordering 3 small pizzas. We took 2 home!
