China - Day 99, Wednesday - 14 weeks

Veronica, Marilyn and I went back to the Fabric Market on Monday.  I decided to get a couple of things. I ordered 2 blouses and a jacket. It is very interesting because everything is custom made. They have samples out to choose from. You pick the fabric, the style, etc. I liked certain things on the samples, but had them change other things. The jacket was a short style but I asked for it to be longer. You bargain down the price and after you agree on a price they take all your measurements. It was kind of fun. The jacket will take 10 days (which is kind of long - usually everything is done in a week or less), so we will go back in two weeks and see how they came out. Hopefully I like them when they are finished.

Today I had Chinese lessons. I manage with simple words - sort of, but when it comes to putting a simple sentence together - my tongue gets all tied up! Today I tried to learn "Very nice to meet you". A good sentence to learn. In Chinese: "Hen gao xing jian dao ni". Xing is pronounced shing; dao is da; ni is knee. Lily and I worked for about two hours. The last half hour she would say some of the sentences to see if I could understand what she was saying. Even though we had just gone over it for 2 hours, I struggled. I was so frustrated. I wonder if I will ever be able to understand Chinese! I did finally learn "Dou shao qian" "How much?" Used that on Monday when we were at the Fabric Market. Of course I had a hard time when they answered. I am practicing the numbers. Getting a little better with those, but they say it so fast! Maybe by the time we move back I might be able to understand a little bit. That is my hope at least.
