Last night, as I was washing the dinner dishes, I looked out the window when I heard a bang. There were fireworks going off. We went to Daniel's bedroom window and watched a 20 minute display of fireworks. They were very pretty - just like 4th of July. Not sure what the occasion was. Asked some people today and they said that is pretty common around here and to wait until the Chinese New Years!
Today Randy had to fly to Beijing for a meeting so Richard took him to the Hungchou airport on the other side of Shanghai. Shanghai has 2 airports; Hungchou and Pudong, which is on the way to Daniel's school. Hungchou is used more for domestic flights and Pudong is international. When you come to visit you will fly into Pudong!
Anyway, since Richard had to take Randy to the airport, I had to take the school bus into the school. Today was United Nation day at school. Parent volunteers set up displays from their home country. The parents dressed in their national costume and the children were asked to dress in costume from their country as well. Each child was given a passport and a sheet with questions on it. They had to travel to all the countries and have their passports stamped and answer questions about the country. Once they answered all the questions they received a prize. At each table they handed out stickers of that countries flag along with various other items. It was quite amazing and interesting.

Here are some more booths - you can see one of the moms to the right dressed in costume.
Sweden, which is where Veronica is from. She is dressed in a traditional Christmas costume. The woman to the left is dressed as Pippi Longstocking, which was written in Sweden.
Daniel visiting Poland, the next booth is Lithuania, then South Africa
Bangladesh
Pakistan. They had a lot on display. The man behind the table is also in traditional clothing.

Malaysia - I loved this dress she was wearing!
Philipines and to the left was the display from Japan.
After that I needed to go shopping for a blanket for our beds. It is getting a little chilly for just a sheet. We stopped at Ikea first. I did not find the blankets I wanted, but I found a wine rack for Randy, a shelf for Daniel's desk. I also found a closet for Daniel and a storage shelf for Daniel's room, but I did not buy these two because I needed to measure Daniel's room. He does not have a closet in his room, so I am looking to buy one and also someplace to put his toys. After Ikea we went to Metro. I had seen blankets there before. They did not have any in king size, and only pink in the twin size - I don't think Daniel would like that! So off to Carrefour we went. They had one king size left and no twins! Who knew it would be hard to find a blanket!
While I was shopping, Randy called from Beijing to tell me that he heard from the Shipping Company. Our container will be delivered on Monday! Yeah! The only problem with Monday is that Daniel's Halloween costumes are in the container. The children get to dress in costume for school and they will have a parade in the morning and a party in the afternoon. I was supposed to go in and read to the kids during the party. Now we have to come up with a costume and I had to find someone who would read. I am still very glad we are finally getting our stuff. I am starting to run out of deodorant (only 1-2 days left and you can not buy it here), conditioner, etc. Also our warm clothes are in the container. Besides that it will be nice to be able to start making this home!
