This morning Alexis and I went shopping to find some things to wear for Founder's Day. We went to a market that the Chinese shop in. The Chinese can get very pushy at these places. We had a couple of people following us around for quite a while asking us what we wanted to buy. Usually they stop after a minute or so, not a few of these people. We kept telling them that we were just looking. They would ask "Hey lady you want watches", "Hey lady you want bags", "Hey lady you want t-shirt". We just kept telling them no and trying to ignore them. They did finally stop. Then we would get to another area and it would start all over again! I bought some suspenders for Daniel and a Hat for myself. I was trying to get a long skirt to sort of look like the 1912's style. I found one in a shop that I thought might do. I was going to slip it over my head and see if it fit and the lady told me that I couldn't do that. Alexis said she had that experience another time when she was shopping. I guess you have to look at it and hope that it looks good on you and fits! I was not able to find a skirt! I guess I will just be wearing a hat!
We then went to a store called the Lemon Zest. I was hoping to find a food processor and a waffle maker. I was told that they have all imported items and I might find it here. No luck! But we did find a wonderful place for lunch! Next door was a French restaurant. Both Alexis and I ordered crepes with asparagus, mushrooms, onions, cream, etc. It was delicious. The wait staff were all from France. It was very good. We resisted the temptation to order a crepe for dessert!
After Daniel got home from school I had to take him to the Clinic to get his TB test done. We have to have that into the school by Monday. I was hoping that our insurance cards would be in, but I could not wait any longer so I had to pay the 1400RMB ($222) out of my own pocket. Now I have to submit it for reimbursement. Any way, this is a very nice clinic. Most of the doctors speak English. The doctor we saw is American. He is of Asian decent, but he did not have an accent at all. Very nice. I requested the chest x-ray for the TB test, because every time Jennifer and Amy get the skin test done they always have a false positive reading. The doctor told me that they only do the chest x-rays here because they can not get the shot medicine from the states and they will not use the local one. I now have the report for school and a new medical place - good day!
Daniel and I had to laugh, on the way to the clinic we got a taxi driver that kept hitting the gas every other second so we were constantly jerking back and forth. On the way home we had Speedy Gonzales. He drove so fast. When there were traffic lights, he would go around into the break down lane and then cut back in when the light turned green. I think we got back in record time!
Before we left I had to go to the office to pay some bills. I also needed to take a package to the office. Earlier this week we had a delivery person deliver a package to us. We hadn't ordered anything, and I could not read the label to know where to take it, so I just gave it to the office. Tonight the doorbell rings and there is a woman from the first floor. She came up to thank us for giving the package to the office. She brought us a box of Ferrero Rocher chocolates as a thank you gift. I guess people do not return things that don't belong to them too often!
